Explain why a pure TEM mode is not supported by hollow rectangular wave guide.

TEm is only suported in tx lines with 2 or more conductors like the coax. In waveguides where there is only one conductor TEM cant exist since the surface becomes equipotential i.e. sttaic potential in the region becomes 0 or constant.
