Significance and applications of Gibbs Free Energy : Standard free energy change is related to the equilibrium constant (k) ΔG0 = −2.303 RT log10 k. ΔG = −Wmax. which means that free energy for a process is equal to the maximum possible work that can be obtained from the process. More work can be derived from the process if the change in free energy is higher. In galvanic cells, the free energy is related to the electrical work done in the cell.
