why do we need a dns system when we can directly use an IP address.

well first of all on some web servers you can just put in their IPs to load the site but anyway, it's because IP addresses are really hard to remember and they change from time to time. You can make a domain name like myname.com point to different server IPs if your server dies or you switch hosting companies or your hosting company buys a new network switch.
