In electronics, modulation is the process of varying one or more properties of a high-frequency periodic waveform, called the carrier signal, with respect to a modulating signal.

generally a message signal has low frequency which can\'t be transmitted to far off distances. that is why a carrier signal of higher frequency is modulated as per the message signal, since signals of higher frequency can be easily transmitted through larger distances.... this is the ROLE of modulation in signal transmission
